Birthday Celebrations
Every child will have the opportunity to celebrate his/her birthday with the class. (Summer babies will have half birthday celebrations.) Please feel free, but do not feel obligated, to send in small inedible treats (i.e. pencils or stickers) to celebrate your child’s birthday. In keeping with improving student nutritional guidelines and to avoid problems with possible food allergies, I ask that you do not send in edible treats. Our time is short, simplicity is key – I prefer to keep an academic focus to class celebrations. I will send a note home to let you know when we will be celebrating if you choose to send something in, please send it in with your child that morning and we will work them into our day when are able.
Classroom Communication
To eliminate unnecessary paper waste, newsletters will be posted to this website each week. Any other updates will be sent via email to the family email address provided to me at the start of the school year. I expect all parents to read the weekly newsletters (and my emails) as they provide you with the information you need to be aware of important information that pertains to our classroom. If you do not have consistent access to internet or consistent email, please let me know so that I may send home a hardcopy of my communications with your child.
Volunteers
In my experience, both students and parents benefit from adult volunteers within the classroom. Students recognize their parents’ interest and involvement in their learning while parents are able to gain a deeper understanding of their child’s learning environment. All students benefit from the interaction with parent volunteers whether the volunteering is directly with students or not. There are plenty of opportunities to help out if you are interested and able, even if you are not able to come into school to help! While I use a monthly volunteer calendar, there is plenty of opportunities for everyone to assist. Plus, things come up and there can be cancellations, so while it might look like a full calendar, it may not actually be! If you have the time, we'd love to have you help out in our room!
