Literacy Share
Starting in 2nd Trimester, Literacy Share is an opportunity for all students to share a bit about what they like to read or have written. Students will only have 2 minutes to share so they will have to know exactly what they want to share on the morning they are scheduled. Think of it like a commercial to entice an audience, not the feature presentation!
My hope is that by providing this time students will continue to be motivated to read and write more. First Graders love to share!
Selections or choices for sharing may come from school or home; some items that students may wish to share are:
- a book
- an article of interest (from a newspaper or magazine)
- a postcard/letter they have received
- a piece of their writing (a story, poem, etc.)
This isnot homework or something that needs to be practiced at home and should not require any extra work outside of the classroom.
After our first round of practice, students will be given a presentation grade which will be part of their reading effort grade. I will send a copy of the rubric home before we begin our second round. This grade will not reflect a student’s reading ability but rather their effort in being prepared to share. Students will be scheduled Monday through Thursday on the monthly classroom calendar (noted after “LS”) so they will need to be prepared on their scheduled day to share.
